My Favorite Cup Blanks for Vinyl
Wondering which glass cup blanks to use for your next craft project?
Welcome to Boba and Bear, the crafty corner of the internet that specializes in glass cups and vinyl.
The perfect canvas (i.e. a cricut blank) is just as important as the design you place on it. As a seasoned Cricut crafter, I've learned that not all glass cup blanks are created equal.
The right blank can elevate a project, while the wrong one can lead to wasted money and sadness due to a delayed project (it happens).
I remember when I first wanted to make glass cups, I did what anyone does and searched on Amazon. I was astounded by the sheer amount of different cups, suppliers, and pricing.
Lucky for you, I'm here to tell you what I found works for me so you don't have to go through the same trial and error.
The Basics of Cup Blanks for Cricut Projects
Glass cup blanks are essentially plain glass cups devoid of any decoration or text, making them the perfect starting point for crafting with vinyl decals, sublimation, or other embellishments.
While there are many different types and sizes, today we are going to specifically be focusing on 16oz glass cans.
What to Look for in Quality Glass Cup Blanks
Thickness
First up, let’s chat about thickness. It's not just about durability, although that's certainly a big plus.
A thicker glass can handle the heat if you're using heat transfer vinyl, and it reduces the risk of breakage both during and after your crafting session.
Clarity
Finding glass cups that are super clear without scratching or strange permanent fogging has actually been the easiest part.
Size and Shape
Curves and angles can be both a design feature and a challenge, so choose wisely. I say, the simpler the better.
As for size, if you purchased a physical wrap in a certain size, then get glasses that match the size for the best outcome.
If you bought an SVG wrap that is designed well, you will be able to ungroup and rearrange/resize elements to fit bigger and smaller glassware.
My Top Pick for Glass Cup Blanks
Unboxing and First Impressions
Unboxing these glass cups was like unwrapping a present that I'd been looking forward to all week! The packaging was minimal yet effective, the cups were all in great shape.
The cups themselves glistened under the light, were crystal clear, and had no scratches.
Material Quality
These are sturdier than some other glass cups I've purchased, especially at the price point. I'm not a fan of ultra-thin glasses as they tend to break easily.
You can see how much thicker the glass is on these! I didn't realize how flimsy the other ones I had been using were.
There are also no bubbles or blemishes.
Size and Shape Analysis
I found the size to be just right—neither too large to handle nor too small to be impractical.
The curvature is subtle, while still giving that classic, rounded glass appeal.
Aesthetic Appeal
The aesthetic appeal is exactly what I am looking for! The design came out super cute on this glass and the SVG wrap fit perfectly, I didn't have to resize anything.
Value for Money
In terms of value, these cups deliver. They're competitively priced but don't skimp on quality.
I've used them for numerous projects, and they consistently produce a high-end look that suggests a much higher cost than what I actually paid.
Worth it?
After spending considerable time with these glass cups and putting them through their paces with a variety of Cricut projects, I can confidently say they're worth the investment.
For anyone who loves making custom cups, these are a solid purchase.
